Games Media Brit List 2019

Games Media Brit List 2019 is going virtual

It is with much regret we announce that the Games Media Brit List 2019 will not take the form of a live awards ceremony this year.

This decision was not taken lightly, but unfortunately, and despite our best efforts, we were unable to attract sponsorship partners for the event. This means we simply had no way of covering the costs of venue hire, food, drinks, entertainment, video production, host, and the umpteen other factors that go into putting on a physical awards ceremony.

However! In recognition (and gratitude) of the fact so many of you engaged with GMBL in the build-up earlier this year, and the HUGE amounts of nominations you took the time to send in, it doesn’t feel right to simply cancel GMBL entirely.

The Games Media Brit List 2019 will instead run as a ‘virtual’ awards.

What does that mean? Well, the general process remains the same, but we will be announcing the winners online rather than at a physical event.

We will very soon reveal the shortlist of Finalists, which has been put together based on nominations made previously.

Following that, we will be contacting each Finalist to ask for a short bio and links to two pieces of work – whether that’s a game review, a YouTube Video, or podcast, depending on the category. This is to provide the Finalists with control of which pieces of work the judges consider.

Then the judging panel will be given this information and will decide the winners. We will then announce the winners on the GMBL website and on Twitter (we’ll let you know in advance of the date).

It’s not the quite the same, we know. Trust us – no one is more disappointed than we are that we won’t be able to get together in person and celebrate the amazing amount of media talent in this industry as we did last year. It was a great night, and everyone had a ball.

But we hope you continue to engage with GMBL in its new form (albeit virtually) and together we can still achieve what it was set out to do; to provide a platform to recognise the great wealth of talent within the UK games media community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lisa Carter on, and stay tuned for the finalist’s announcement.

Game on.

Change of date for Games Media Brit List 2019

We’re sorry to let you know that we’ve had to move the Games Media Brit List Awards to a date later in the year.

First and foremost, all awards submissions still stand, but if you would like to update anything, given the longer lead time, we’re happy to accept additional info from you - simply email

We are currently rearranging the date with the venue, so please bear with us. It will still take place at the awesome Rich Mix in Shoreditch. Date to be confirmed, but we’re looking at September/October.

Our Finalists will be announced at a later date.

It will still be free for the games media to attend, and we’ll have the Jaegermeister bar back too.

Apologies for the delay – events out of our control. But please let us know if you have booked travel/accommodation and we will ensure you’re not out of pocket.

Feel free to ask us any questions you have at

Many thanks,

Lisa & The GMBL Team

Awards event for everyone involved in the UK games media community will take place

Thursday, May 16th 2019 * Jägermeister bar returns!

Nominations now open!

The Games Media Brit List will once again celebrate the very best in games writing and broadcasting on Thursday, May 16th 2019 at London’s Rix Mix.

Returning after a rip-roaring inaugural 2018 event, the Games Media Brit List awards are open to anyone involved in the games and esports media – specialist consumer journalists, B2B reporters, vloggers, media brands, national media reviewers and more.

The awards provide a showcase of UK games media talent and will highlight achievements from the previous 12 months – whether for excellent reporting, influencer reach, or creative ingenuity.

Nominations are open to anyone working in the UK games media. Entrants don’t have to be British, but they do need to have worked for a UK games media outlet within the past 12 months.

As well as the awards themselves, the Games Media Brit List will once again bring together the games media community and the wider industry for an evening of entertainment and networking in the buildup to E3, the global industry’s leading trade event in LA.

And for finalists, the Games Media Brit List will once again be completely free to attend.
